Facebook On Your Desktop

As an Online Mom, there’s a good chance you are part of the fastest growing demographic on Facebook. As the social networking site evolves, so too do the ways to use and access it. There are of thousands of applications on the site to help you get more out of Facebook. And now there are new applications to use right on your desktop.
You no longer have to login and navigate the site to check a friend’s status update, upload new photos, or view notifications. The following applications all access Facebook from your desktop, without ever firing up your browser, making Facebook more accessible than ever.
To keep track of new wall posts, friend requests, and messages received, there’s the simple Facebook Desktop. While it’s popular among Facebook users, it doesn’t have all the features of FizzBoost, which is still making a name for itself. With FizzBoost, users get the same notification features as they would with Facebook Desktop, plus the ability to update their own status, view friends’ status updates, and even sync updates with Twitter.
When it comes to pictures, Mac users have Facebook Exporter for iPhoto. This app allows users to upload any of their photos, tag them, and even add comments to albums. Bloom, compatible with both Macs and PCs, has all the same features, plus it allows users to view and download friends’ photos.
One of the more fun desktop apps is FriendSaver. This Mac-only application finds photos of friends and uses them to create a screensaver. Recently added photos are automatically cycled in, and you can even filter out friends you don’t want to see! Friend Photosaver should do the same for PCs (in theory) but reviews indicate there are a few kinks to work out first.
If you’re new to Facebook, these desktop applications may be helpful. Nothing will feel as homey as navigating the social networking site right from where you’re most familiar—your desktop!
